Fernanda Alcobé

Researcher, Climate Change

Fernanda has over 13 years of experience working on climate change policy design and implementation. She has developed and promoted mitigation projects and programmes in Latin America, participated in the UN climate change negotiations as a team member of the Argentinian national delegation, and taken part as a technical expert of the UN climate change review and analysis processes.

Expertise

International climate change negotiations, with a focus on mitigation and transparency mechanisms; monitoring, reporting and verification processes under the UNFCCC (greenhouse gas inventories, biannual update reports and REDD+ reference levels); policy development and implementation and sustainable forest management. 
 

Before IIED

  • Senior consultant: providing short-term consultancy work to national and international organisations, local and national governments, private sector and NGOs on sustainable development and multilateral climate negotiations; REDD+; carbon mitigation projects; certification standards and methodologies; greenhouse gas emissions inventories (GHG); country and program assessments; UNFCCC review and analysis processes; and training and capacity building on all these subjects.

Current work

Fernanda supports the Least Developed Countries (LDC) Group at the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) negotiations. She works with the LDC lead negotiator for transparency. She is also working on national policy work related to transparency under the Paris Agreement.
